  • Agilent – Portable Raw Material ID Verification – Agilent RapID

The RapID system is the next generation in portable Raman raw materials ID verification, extending high-throughput spectroscopic analysis through clear packaging to nontransparent and colored containers.

ID testing of materials in opaque containers can create a bottleneck in pharmaceutical manufacturing. A dedicated sampling area is needed to open, sample, test and re-seal each container to verify the content’s identity.

The RapID system uses spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS) technology, which is a unique Raman variant ideally suited to noninvasive ID verification of raw materials. The RapID system allows the operator to verify the contents of each container through opaque and colored packaging in seconds, enabling release immediately into production. This saving on handling and lab testing reduces the overhead from hours or days to only minutes per batch.

In routine operations, The RapID system is simple to use and highly suitable for warehouse or material storage environments. Using SORS technology, the system can positively identify raw materials through packaging. Bar code scanning of batch, materials, and container information can be used to streamline routine operation.

The TRS100 enables fast, easy to use whole tablet or capsule assay & polymorph analysis for pharmaceutical QC testing. Easier to implement than other spectroscopic methods, Agilent’s transmission Raman spectroscopy (TRS) technology allows simple method-development and deployment in QC applications.

A TRS100 system can reduce content uniformity (CU), assay, and ID tests to minutes per batch, saving significant cost and speeding up your QC workflow.

TRS100 system trays can hold up to 300 coated tablets or intact capsules, or tens of glass vials or powder samples. Sample preparation and consumables are not needed, meaning skilled analytical resource is not required. CU testing methods using transmission Raman have been approved by regulators using ICH and regulatory-authority acceptable protocols.

Solid state Analysis: The TRS100 can be used for quantitative measurement of polymorph content in intact tablets, with LOQ of 0.1-1% w/w – significantly better than XRPD. TRS can be used for residual crystallinity in amorphous API/tablet analysis.

  • Armfield – Desktop Learning Modules – DLMX Series

The Armfield DLMX system is a practical education system aimed at teaching students the basics of fluid mechanics, heat exchange and other fundamental engineering principles. It is a unique combination of coursework and practical demonstration equipment and can be used to teach students of all ages. The equipment comprises a small battery operated base unit, into which one of seven different cartridges is plugged. The base unit contains a water reservoir, pump, controls and viewing panel. The cartridges contain an experimental representation of the topic, and the specific instrumentation required for the particular demonstration. Currently seven different cartridges are available covering fluid mechanics, thermofluids and heat transfer. The cartridges can be changed in seconds as they use a simple plug in mechanism. As the cartridges include their own microcontroller, the base unit automatically detects the cartridge that is fitted and displays the information accordingly. The equipment can be used by a single student, by small groups of students or by a teacher or technician demonstrating to the whole class. The academic content and coursework is provided by Washington State University. It includes classroom exercises, detailed theory of the processes and suggestions for further work. The base unit comprises a clear acrylic water reservoir, mounted on a robust vacuum formed ABS plastic plinth. Under the plinth is a pump with a variable speed control, flow meter, battery, level sensor and the electrical control circuitry with display. The units are battery powered; the internal rechargeable batteries provide more than enough for a long classroom session. The units can also be powered by mains electricity, recharging the batteries at the same time. The simple push fit cartridge interface, provides smartchip and self-sealing hose connections. This mechanism is common to all the DLM cartridges. The quick easy setup ensures that sensible investigations can be performed in less than ten minutes.

  • Armfield – Fluid Machines – FM Series CAPTURE

The heat transfer accessories may be individually connected to the HT10XC service unit, which provides the necessary electrical supplies and measurement facilities for investigation and comparison of the different heat transfer characteristics. A specific feature of the HT10XC is that it corporates the facilities and safety features to enable the accessories to be remotely controlled from an external computer, where this is appropriate. It will shut down safely in the event of a communications failure. With suitable (user provided) software, the equipment operated remotely, for instance over an intranet or even over the internet. All the facilities can also be accessed locally using the front panel controls and display.

The service unit is housed in a robust steel enclosure and designed for use on a bench or table. It provides control outputs to the accessories, and instrumentation inputs from the accessories.

    Outputs:

    • A stabilised, variable DC supply to the heater of the heat transfer accessory under evaluation
    • Drive to flow-regulation valves on HT11C and HT12C
    • Drive to the variable-speed air blowers used on HT14C and HT16C

    Inputs and Instrumentation:

    • Temperatures: (up to 10 off, dependant on accessory being used)
    • Heater voltage: (All accessories except HT17)
    • Heater current: (All accessories except HT17)
    • Heat radiated: (HT13)
    • Light radiated: (HT13)
    • Air velocity: (HT14, HT14C, HT16, HT16C,HT19)
    • Cooling water flowrate: (HT11C, HT12C, HT18C)

In manual mode, the outputs listed above are under control of potentiometers on the front panel of the unit. In remote mode the outputs to the accessories are controlled by the computer. A ‘Watchdog’ system is implemented in remote mode to ensure operator and equipment safety in event of a computer or communications failure.

In both modes the signals from the accessory can be shown on the front panel displays. Selector switches are used to select the chosen signal onto one of the two displays. These signals are also available on the USB interface for datalogging on the computer (even if the computer is not controlling the equipment).
